Karpachevo

Karpachevo is a small, beautiful village in the Municipality of Letnitsa, 38 km from Lovech. Turkish stockbreeders settled there in the 16th century, where its old name came from—Urukleri, which was kept until 1923. After that, the village was named Nadezhda (Hope) and later renamed after the communist poet Hristo Karpachev, who was born there.

Finds in the Fоutyova Cave indicate that there was an earlier settlement of pre-historic people there. Among these is a Neolithic stone hammer. Today, about 100 people live in the village, most of them retired.

One of the village’s prides is its cultural center, which features a folk singing group, a library, and a cinema hall. It also has a tourist and information center, established with support from the Devetaki Plateau Association and the Norwegian Cooperation Program.
